Working out alone in a tiny, converted man-cave, a 48 year old man drops 30 pounds in 18 weeks to prove that he shouldn't have let his ass get that big in the first place. For those who are interested. here's the basics of my diet and training: I trained 6 days a week - 3 days cardio, 3 days weights. The cardio covered running, cycling, rowing, x-trainer & boxing, starting easy and rising in intensity throughout the program. I tried to keep the weights as balanced as possible, but didn't go too heavy. This was partly because I don't want to bulk up any more and partly because I have to be very careful of health and safety training on my own. The exercises varied from bicep curls, shoulder flares and bench press to chin ups, dumbbell shrugs and tricep extensions. Diet was pretty standard and balanced, but with the following rules. No bread, no desserts, no snacks like crisps (potato chips) etc., 6 meals a day but no big ones and no alcohol. I kept strictly to that for 6 days a week and the 7th day was a free day when I could eat anything. A typical day is as follows. Meal 1 (7am) Bowl of cereal with zero fat yoghurt. Meal 2 (10am) Small snack, the size of an energy bar, and an apple. Meal 3 (Noon) Small salad dominated by protein. Meal 4 (3pm) Small snack, size of an energy bar (usually a banana). Meal 5 (6pm-ish) Main meal. Good quality stuff with good protein (salmon etc), vegetables etc. Not too many carbs. Meal 6 (No later than 8) My wife has a Nutribullet now, so we have a fruit smoothie. Golden rule is never eat yourself full and NEVER go to bed on a full stomach.

There were many requests for me to do a video in the snow. We finally had some snow here in Washington, Missouri, and I was off work to enjoy it! This is the first time I've ridden my Fat Bike in the snow. It was difficult at times because the snow was so deep and there was a frozen layer about half way down. Most of the time my peddles were hitting the snow which added more resistance making it really hard to move forward. We ended up getting a little over 10 inches in total. It was "SNOW MUCH FUN" :-) If you ever get the opportunity to ride your bike in the snow I would highly recommend it, it's a whole new two wheeled experience. I ended up denting my rear wheel in my last video. The new Washington Missouri bridge is now open. So it's out with the old and in with the new. The new bridge has a pedestrian walk on it but it's still closed. From what I understand the pedestrian walk will be completed around the same time the old bridge is removed. I finally found and took a ride on the Zombie East Trail. This video was supposed to be of my trip to Mexico and footage of me riding a Fat Bike on the beach. The beach wasn't what I had expected and I wasn't able to find a Fat Bike to rent near our resort. I didn't what to waste the footage I had gathered so I added it to the beginning of this video. SORRY, I hope you still enjoy it!! Just off the Rock Hollow Trail with a short, steep climb back up to the ridge line. “Zombie East” is distinguished by epic rock formations scattered along the undulating trail — stout boulders and sharp bluffs that heave into view all around the path. GORC has done an amazing job of incorporating these natural features into the routing; nowhere more so than on a series of hand-built stone switchbacks that mount a ravine midway through this half of the trail. Other hallmarks of Zombie East: a rock “chute” that you travel through and several dirt berms that mountain bikers in particular enjoy swooping down. No wonder this trail is fast becoming the go-to for local backwoods riders. ******THANK YOU Echotrace for letting me use some more of your material, this time I chose "Somethings Gotta Give" and "Break Me" for the sound track. Thanks again guys!!!!****** Tales of strange incidents and ghostly apparitions on “Zombie Road” have existed ever since its creation in the late 1860s. The original dirt and gravel path was carved out of thick trees and brush near Glencoe, Missouri to provide access to the Meramec and the railroad tracks located along the river. One legend says the phantom of an early settler who was struck and killed by a train haunts the dark forest. Another describes a killer who lived in a dilapidated shack by the water and who would attack young lovers who came there looking for privacy. There’s still a lot of buzz about the old road even today, although now it’s because the surrounding woods are home to one of the region’s premier multi-use trails. Built by Gateway Off-Road Cyclists (GORC) over the past several years, Zombie Trail weaves among the high hills on both sides of the road — now paved and called Rock Hollow Trail — providing a happy playground for hikers, runners, mountain bikers and equestrians. When the trails are to muddy to ride and you have to find something else to do. Then do it!! These large stones line the road near the Al Foster trail next to the Wabash Frisco & Pacific Railway. I figured I'd play around on them with my Fat Bike and work on a few basic biking skills. You don't always have to be riding the biggest and baddest trails to have fun on your Fatty. And when he made the decision to change his physique - he quickly realized that he couldn't train like he was 20 years old. The fact is - as we get older - our testosterone production has slowed, our growth hormone levels have declined, our joints are battered and beaten - simply put, we don’t recover as fast as we used to, our muscles are tougher to strengthen, our metabolism has slowed down - and we gain fat around our mid-section a whole lot easier than we would like it to. However, with the right approach - you can still be in better shape than you were in your 20’s. Welcome to the Ripped Over 40 Full Body Fat Loss Workout Before you begin - get a good dynamic warm-up in to ensure your body is loose, limber, and ready to perform. Perform 5 minutes of jumping jacks, broad jumps, and bear crawls. You will be performing 5 exercises in circuit fashion using 60% of your 1 rep max for weighted exercises. You’ll perform each exercise for 30 seconds - then take 30 seconds to rest and setup for the next exercise. Once you finish all 5 exercises, take 2 minutes to catch your breath and repeat the entire circuit again 5 more times - making the entire workout just under 40 minutes. If it’s taking you longer than that - pick up the pace! Exercise #1: Dumbbell Squat Curl Press This is an excellent high intensity, full body exercise that will help get the heart rate up and kickstart the fat burning process for the rest of the entire workout. Grab a pair of dumbbells at your sides - squat down with a full range of motion, knees out, push your heels through the floor. Once you’re ¾ of the way up, curl the dumbbells up to your shoulders in a hammer grip, then press straight overhead at the top when your knees are close to lockout. Control the weight back down and descend into the next rep. Aim to make this one smooth movement, don’t stop or pause for the full 30 second interval - constant movement just like a piston in an engine. Exercise #2: Explosive Plyo Pushup Next we’ll work chest and triceps - drop down into a push up position - core braced, hands under your shoulders, body straight like a board. Perform push-ups explosively, pushing yourself into the air for each rep - you should be pushing yourself high enough to perform a clap in the air. Explosive concentric, slow controlled eccentric. If you’re struggling with this movement, you can perform regular pushups - however, really focus on being as explosive as you can on the upward portion of the lift. Exercise #3: Dumbbell Alternating Bent Row Grab a pair of dumbbells again, set up for a bent over row - upper body parallel with the floor - remember to brace the core. Begin by performing a row with one arm, while the other hangs down, remember to squeeze with the lats at the top and work the back, then as you begin lowering the weight back down, begin performing a row with the other arm. You want to perform these one arm rows back and forth with constant movement so that they pass by each other at the halfway point. Exercise #4: Box Jumps Use a plyo box or platform at or above knee height - squat down and jump onto the box with head-to-toe power and momentum - then back down and repeat. Try to stay light on your feet and use full body explosiveness. Exercise #5: Stability Ball Windshield Wipers We’ll finish off, blasting the abs. Lie flat on your back, extend your arms to your sides to anchor yourself, squeeze a stability ball between your legs then rotate back and forth touching the ball on the floor each side. Keep your back flat on the floor - this will light up your obliques and work your entire core to get you those ripped abs - so really push hard and finish this one strong! Take 2 minutes to rest, then get right back at it and complete this entire circuit 5 more times. These include: 1. Make it a total body workout. You want to do three total body workouts per week, hitting the entire body every session. 2. Add resistance. This is key. If you don’t add some type of external weight, the chances of you boosting testosterone will be low. As great as I think bodyweight exercises can be at times, they are not ideal in this situation. 3. Move from exercise to exercise quickly. This will help you boost your metabolism so that you can burn more energy for up to 24 hours after the workout session is completed. 4. Use multi-joint and compound exercises. These are the moves that will work the greatest number of muscles at once and help you get in and out of the gym quickly. They’re also the best exercises for helping you gain larger amounts of strength as well. 5. Use Circuit Training Wisely. Use circuits, moving from one exercise to the next so that your workouts never last longer than 20-30 minutes in length. You should never be resting more than one minute between sets during a given workout. 6. Keep equipment to a minimum. There’s no need for fancy machines. All you need is a simple set of dumbbells to get the job done correctly. 7. Allow for 48 hours of rest between each workout. Remember that your body doesn’t recover as well as it used to so leave that extra time for recovery. This will ensure that you are never verging on overtraining – and a decrease in testosterone. On these rest days, feel free to add yoga or another low impact activity. 8. Vary your exercises. Keep things interesting by changing your exercises around from week to week. Not only will this prevent workout related boredom, but it’ll also ensure that your body keeps responding to the work that you are doing. Start Losing Your Belly Fat Fast: http://go.sixpackshortcuts.com/never47a1 Hey, everybody. Mark Mcilyar here today to show you one of my favorite at-home exercises I have my beginners doing... Right in their living rooms! First and foremost, make sure you have a sufficient amount of space. You don't need a ton of it, just put your arms extended all the way out to each side, do a 360-degree spin, and make sure nothing in that area is going to get in the way. We will be doing a total of 5 different exercises, all back-to-back with no rest until you finish the first round of all 5 movements.Now, let's get going: 0:39 - Elevated Pushups for 10 reps: Remember that these movements are for beginners. That means if you aren't able to fully complete a set of pushups with proper form - back flat, on your toes, arms holding you up and at a shoulder's width - on the ground, then find an elevated surface to workout with. The higher the surface - my coffee table for example, the easier it's going to be for you to do the move. 1:32 - Air Squats for 10 reps: With your feet just about at a shoulder's width apart, you'll essentially be performing a movement identical to sitting down. Here's the kicker - keep your arms forward and out like I am to keep your back straight, remembering to drop down into the squat until your quads hit parallel or if not as low as your mobility allows. 2:13 - Lying Leg Lifts for 10 reps: Lay flat on your back and place your hands underneath your butt. With your legs together or at most a hip's width apart and your legs locked with a slight bend at the knee, lift your legs off the ground and drive your knees up to become parallel with your hips. 2:47 - Donkey Kicks for 10 reps on each leg: Kneel down on your knees and have your hands in a pushup position - shoulder's width apart and at chest level. From this starting point, you will lift one leg up, keeping the leg you ar moving in a locked position and driving your leg up by focusing on your heel going towards the ceiling. Once you finish one leg, make sure to alternate to the next. 3:34 - Knee Pushups for 10 reps: Another pushup variation, only we are taking the pressure off of staying in a plank position, and you will do the pushups from the same start position as you doing the donkey kicks. There you have it. Do all 5 movements back-to-back and after you finish the round with Knee Pushups, take about a 45 second to 1-minute break. Complete a total of 3 rounds for a complete, bodyweight home workout in as little as 7 minutes. To all the beginners looking to get started working out to lose their belly fat and get in shape: It's only 7 minutes out of your day! Start out just doing this maybe 2 or 3 times a week, and as you get into the swing of things, increase it to 3 or 4. By then, you will be ready to incorporate some resistance training to really build that body you want and know you deserve. Like the routine, we put together for you here today? Just in time for Halloween, I finally found and took a ride on the Zombie West Trail. ******THANK YOU Echotrace for letting me use another one of your rocking tunes, this time I chose "Bait" for the sound track. Thanks again guys!!!!****** Tales of strange incidents and ghostly apparitions on “Zombie Road” have existed ever since its creation in the late 1860s. The original dirt and gravel path was carved out of thick trees and brush near Glencoe, Missouri to provide access to the Meramec and the railroad tracks located along the river. One legend says the phantom of an early settler who was struck and killed by a train haunts the dark forest. Another describes a killer who lived in a dilapidated shack by the water and who would attack young lovers who came there looking for privacy. There’s still a lot of buzz about the old road even today, although now it’s because the surrounding woods are home to one of the region’s premier multi-use trails. Built by Gateway Off-Road Cyclists (GORC) over the past several years, Zombie Trail weaves among the high hills on both sides of the road — now paved and called Rock Hollow Trail — providing a happy playground for hikers, runners, mountain bikers and equestrians. Description The 100-percent, natural-surface pathway located in Wildwood, Missouri, currently measures 6.15 miles and features some of the most scenic rock formations, waterfalls, springs and ravines along any trail in the greater St. Louis area. Starting at the Trailhead of the Undead — yes, that’s its real name — the single-track climbs up the western ridge line, twisting and turning through dense forest before eventually evening out and hugging the moss-covered bluff. From there, “Zombie West” offers smooth, fast trail with a few punchy climbs and sharp turns leading into and out of gullies. The only noteworthy obstacle on this half of the trail is a series of shelf rocks that demand attention for a short span. The highlights of Zombie West include a couple of creek crossings and two trickling waterfalls: one the you cross on top after ascending a short rise and the other that you pass under, stepping behind it into a cave-like depression. The second thing you must do to release fat-burning hormones is exercise less. So today's most popular workouts-- P90X, Insanity, CrossFit-- these are great ways to lose belly fat. However, they're designed for younger people. So I recommend that you avoid that and instead you replace it with 20 to 30 second anti-aging movement patterns. Now, these movement patterns are specifically designed to release fat-burning hormones. One study even shows that these movement patterns can increase growth hormone production over 700%. The third and final step-- and this is the most important-- is that you must avoid fat defense. When you're 35 years old, your fat loss hormones start rapidly declining. This is not my typical video but I still wanted to share my experience. My route was from Gerald to Rosebud, and back again which was 10.95 miles. There are periods of loud wind noise, just a little warning :-) I'm checking out the old Rock Island Railroad tracks near my home that are in the process of being converted to a biking trail by the Missouri Rails to Trails project. When complete this corridor will add 144 miles of hiking and biking and it will be known as the Rock Island Spur and will connect to the popular Katy Trail. The Rock Island Railway was built in the early 1900s. Small towns developed along its length. When rail traffic was discontinued in the 1980s, many of the communities also began to decline. MORIT has a vision to turn this unused resource into an easily accessible walking and bicycling trail. As you will see as you explore these pages, rails to trails projects greatly benefit communities. Because rail corridors generally have a 2% or less grade, trails built on former rail beds are easy for anyone to use. They provide free access to physical fitness activities for all. Rail trails also provide safe routes for children to walk and bike to school. They provide economic opportunities as hikers and bikers purchase food, rent lodgings, and take advantage of other local venues. Trails increase land values along the trail.
