Oracle GREATEST Function

02:43
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-greatest/ The Oracle GREATEST function is a useful function, but I don’t think it’s very well understood. It returns the greatest or largest value in a set of values. You can provide the values, and use numbers or text values. The syntax for the Oracle GREATEST function is: GREATEST(expr1 [, expr_n]) The expr1 is the first expression to use for your comparison. Expr_n is one or more expressions to use in the comparison, separated by commas. This is optional. So how is GREATEST calculated? If the parameters are numeric, the GREATEST function finds the largest number. If the parameters are characters, the function finds the latest value if they were sorted alphabetically (using their character values). What data type is returned? It depends on the parameters you provide. It could be the same as the parameters you provide, or VARCHAR2 if the parameters are all characters. You can also use the GREATEST function with dates. It’s also the opposite of the LEAST function. For more information on the GREATEST function, including the SQL used in this video and the examples, read the related post here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-greatest/

Oracle SQL Tutorial 23 - Intro to Data Types

05:03
Every column within a table has to be given what is known as a datatype. A data type is a fairly simple concept when you dissect the word. It is literally the type of data. Why do we use types, though? The biggest benefit is so that Oracle knows how to interpret and work with our data. It also makes the database better at rejecting incorrect data. If we had to concept of a data type, there would be a lot more work involved in forcing data to be of the right format. It would also be harder for us to get the database to treat the data in the correct way. In addition to this, a database can optimize storage and performance for a column if everything is of the same data type. Because of this, each column can only support one data type. There are numerous different data types in Oracle and it helps us if we categorize them. The first types of datatypes we should learn about are: String, Numeric, Temporal Now, there are few more categories we could make, but these are the main ones. We will worry about the other ones another day as I am only introducing the topic. A string data type is anything within quotes. Most databases use single quotes for string data. Inside of the quotes can be any number of characters. What is a character? Think of any letter, number, or symbol you can type. Some people call these letters, numbers, and symbols alphanumeric. Numeric data type includes only numbers. These data types are often used for data that you plan on using for mathematical calculations. Temporal data types are data types that are used for dates and times. Now, each data type is probably going to have some options you'll need to worry about, but one that comes up with every data type is storage. The reason we need to consider storage is because we may end up with millions of rows in a table and the difference between a few bytes for each row will make a huge difference when we look at the whole picture. When a data type gives you the option of size, you will want to a size that will be able to hold what you need, but nothing more. In the upcoming videos we are going to discuss the available data types in more detail. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Support me! http://www.patreon.com/calebcurry Subscribe to my newsletter: http://bit.ly/JoinCCNewsletter Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Additional Links~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More content: http://CalebCurry.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CalebTheVideoMaker Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CalebTheVideoMaker2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/calebCurry Amazing Web Hosting - http://bit.ly/ccbluehost (The best web hosting for a cheap price!)

Oracle SQL Tutorial 11 - CREATE TABLE

05:04
The way you create a table is to use the CREATE TABLE command. CREATE TABLE users() So in this situation, the name comes right after the TABLE keyword. The next thing we do is put all of the columns on a line that we want to put in our table. CREATE TABLE users( user_id, username, first_name, last_name ) Notice the naming conventions here. For this series we are going to make columns with what is known as snake casing. This is where each individual word is separated by an underscore. if you have more than one column, all of them have to have commas except the last one. The comma is a way to say that another column is coming, so you don't need to do it on the last one. Now you would think we were done, but we also have to say what data type each column is. Later we will extensively discuss data types so we can focus on them exclusively. For now, here are the data types we are going to use: CREATE TABLE users( user_id NUMBER, username VARCHAR2(50), first_name VARCHAR2(50), last_name VARCHAR2(50) ) Now, inside of the parenthesis for varchar2, we pass in a number... This is the max length of the string. But the question is, what is it measured in? The default is actually in bytes, not characters. For example if we have the string hello, it is 5 characters, but it might take up a total of 10 bytes of storage. So I would recommend adding the keyword char right after the number so it defaults to 50 characters, not bytes. CREATE TABLE users( user_id NUMBER, username VARCHAR(50 CHAR), first_name VARCHAR2(50 CHAR), last_name VARCHAR2(50 CHAR) ) This will work to create a table, but it's really missing a lot of information… which column is the primary key? Are we adding any indexes? Is there any thing else we need to say about these columns? So as you can tell, we are making progress, but there is still so much to learn. The biggest gotcha to remember from this video is that the data type VARCHAR ends in a 2, stupid, right? who would end the name of something with a 2? Once again, this is Caleb from CalebTheVideoMaker2, and we will catch you in the next one! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HELP ME! http://www.patreon.com/calebcurry Subscribe to my newsletter: http://bit.ly/JoinCCNewsletter Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Additional Links~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More content: http://CalebCurry.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CalebTheVideoMaker Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CalebTheVideoMaker2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/calebCurry Amazing Web Hosting - http://bit.ly/ccbluehost (The best web hosting for a cheap price!)

Part 1 How to find nth highest salary in sql

There are several ways of finding the nth highest salary. By the end of this video, we will be able to answer all the following questions as well. How to find nth highest salary in SQL Server using a Sub-Query How to find nth highest salary in SQL Server using a CTE How to find the 2nd, 3rd or 15th highest salary Let's use the following Employees table for this demo Use the following script to create Employees table Create table Employees ( ID int primary key identity, FirstName nvarchar(50), LastName nvarchar(50), Gender nvarchar(50), Salary int ) GO Insert into Employees values ('Ben', 'Hoskins', 'Male', 70000) Insert into Employees values ('Mark', 'Hastings', 'Male', 60000) Insert into Employees values ('Steve', 'Pound', 'Male', 45000) Insert into Employees values ('Ben', 'Hoskins', 'Male', 70000) Insert into Employees values ('Philip', 'Hastings', 'Male', 45000) Insert into Employees values ('Mary', 'Lambeth', 'Female', 30000) Insert into Employees values ('Valarie', 'Vikings', 'Female', 35000) Insert into Employees values ('John', 'Stanmore', 'Male', 80000) GO To find the highest salary it is straight forward. We can simply use the Max() function as shown below. Select Max(Salary) from Employees To get the second highest salary use a sub query along with Max() function as shown below. Select Max(Salary) from Employees where Salary [ (Select Max(Salary) from Employees) To find nth highest salary using Sub-Query SELECT TOP 1 SALARY FROM ( SELECT DISTINCT TOP N SALARY FROM EMPLOYEES ORDER BY SALARY DESC ) RESULT ORDER BY SALARY To find nth highest salary using CTE WITH RESULT AS ( SELECT SALARY, DENSE_RANK() OVER (ORDER BY SALARY DESC) AS DENSERANK FROM EMPLOYEES ) SELECT TOP 1 SALARY FROM RESULT WHERE DENSERANK = N To find 2nd highest salary we can use any of the above queries. Simple replace N with 2. Similarly, to find 3rd highest salary, simple replace N with 3. Please Note: On many of the websites, you may have seen that, the following query can be used to get the nth highest salary. The below query will only work if there are no duplicates. WITH RESULT AS ( SELECT SALARY, ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY SALARY DESC) AS ROWNUMBER FROM EMPLOYEES ) SELECT SALARY FROM RESULT WHERE ROWNUMBER = 3

Oracle REPLACE Function

03:55
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-replace/ The Oracle REPLACE function is a string manipulation function that allows you to replace one text string with another. It can be a whole word or sentence, or even a single value. The syntax of the REPLACE function is: REPLACE ( whole_string, string_to_replace, [replacement_string]) To use this function, the parameters are: - whole_string (mandatory): This is the string that will be checked for the characters to be replaced. - string_to_replace (mandatory): This is the string that will be searched for within whole_string. - replacement_string (optional): This is the string that will be used to replace occurrences of string_to_replace. Because the last parameter is optional, if it is not specified, then the Oracle REPLACE function removes all occurrences of string_to_replace. You can replace carriage returns with REPLACE, but you’ll need to use the CHR function. You can replace NULL values in Oracle, but this is best done with another function such as NVL, rather than REPLACE. If you want to replace multiple characters, you can do this using nested REPLACE functions or a REGEXP_REPLACE function. For more information about the Oracle REPLACE function, including all of the SQL shown in this video and the examples, read the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-replace/

Analytical Functions in oracle explained with real examples

25:24
This video explains analytical functions and how they are implemented in real projects. Analytical functions are somewhat similar to aggregate functions, but they offer much more. Why use analytical function ? They allow you to write fast and concise queries which otherwise will involve self join and long processing times They allow you to perform aggregate functions independently on sets of partitions. You can access values from previous rows in current row and you can restrict the window on which you want to apply this analytical function. I have given additional practice exercises along with the dataset so that you can comfortably work with analytical functions. You can find the sample problems along with dataset in the below link. http://www.internshipsfromhome.com/oracle-analytical-functions-ddl-and-dml/

Order by in SQL | Order by clause in Oracle | sorting in sql

10:55
Order by in SQL | Order by clause in Oracle Use Order by in SQL to sort the results of a query by a given column or columns. facebook page www.facebook.com/learningseveryday Blog www.ethtimes1.blogspot.com In this video of Order by in sql , we will see how to arrange output data of a query in ascending or descending order . The Order by in SQL is used in a SELECT statement to sort results either in ascending or descending order. Order by in sql, is sql's way of sorting in sql. You can sort output of a query using order by in sql. Usually data in tables of sql is unordered form. Tables in sql are treated as sets of mathematics. In set theory , members of sets can be represented in any order. Similarly records or rows in tables of sql can be in any form. But sometimes we may need output of a query in ascending or descending order. ORDER BY Syntax SELECT column1, column2, ... FROM table_name ORDER BY column1, column2, ... ASC|DESC; To arrange output of a query in sql, we have to use order by in sql. Order by in sql is very easy to use. In video we had explained this concept with examples. Suppose we write a query as : select ename, city from employee; This wil list data on the screen . But we can not predict order of data. Suppose we supply it as : select ename, city from employee order by ename; This will sort the output in ascending order of enames because of order by clause. If you do not mention order in order by clause in Oracle , it will sort query results in ascending order by default. How to use order by in sql : Select ename , city from employee order by ename; This will list name and city of all the employees from employee table in ascending order of enames. You can also arrange data in descending order by using keyword desc in the query. Select ename , city from employee order by ename desc; please watch video in full length to clear the idea of order by in sql. You can also perform two columns sorting in sql, using order by in sql. If the content of the video is interesting, please share this video and subscribe this channel. Example: SELECT * FROM Individual ORDER BY LastName DESC; -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "what is flow chart | symbols of flowchart explained in hindi" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2I8gp1NGGU -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

AWS re:Invent 2017: Amazon.com - Replacing 100s of Oracle DBs with Just One: DynamoDB (ARC406)

56:40
When customers across the globe place orders on Amazon.com, those orders are processed through many different backend systems, including Herd, a workflow-orchestration engine developed by the Amazon eCommerce Foundation team. A mission-critical system used by more than 300 Amazon engineering teams, Herd executes over four billion workflows every day. Beginning in 2013, Herd’s workflow traffic was doubling year-over-year, and scaling its then dozens of horizontally-partitioned Oracle databases was becoming a nightmare, and this number kept increasing. To support Herd’s increasing scaling needs, and to provide a better customer experience, the Herd team had to re-architect its storage system and move its primary data storage from Oracle to Amazon DynamoDB. In this session, we discuss how we moved from Oracle to Amazon DynamoDB, walk through the biggest challenges we faced and how we overcame them, and share the lessons we learned along the way.
