This video is all about SILVER / GREY / GRANNY HAIR and doing it at home. I went through the hair dyeing process and how to do it at home, as well as colour maintenance, damage prevention and how I saved my hair from the bleach damage, dealing with dry hair, how I style it and how often I wash it, hair care routine and all the FAQs you guys have left me in previous videos.
I am not a professional and I'm not a hairdresser. All the hair you see is my natural hair, so if you were wondering how bleaching and going silver will work on your super long hair, here you go.
First thing you need to know is that to go silver, you HAVE TO bleach your hair. You need to take all of the colour out of the hair to then put in silver colour.
Bleach Powder I used is Nirvel Artx Blue. (you have to mix the powder with the developer - read next step)
PREVENTING DAMAGE / PRESERVING HAIR STRENGTH
The Developer / Peroxide Cream I used is from Nirvel: I used 40V but that is very damaging, go for 20V and wait longer, that way you will prevent damage.
Another way to prevent damage is the use Olaplex no1 in the bleaching mixture (read how to use it on the www.olaplex.com website).
TONING YELLOW / BRASSY TONES IN HAIR
To get silver hair you have to make sure there are no yellow / orange / brassy tones. The blue in the bleaching powder helps to tone the hair but the yellow comes back over time. So you will have to wash your hair with white hair / purple shampoo. The one I use is from Nirvel - the white hair shampoo . ➞ http://ebay.to/1Qw2UG7
I don't like to use permanent / semi-permanent hair dye to get the silver hair colour. (So without this step, you'd have white hair, not silver.) So for the silver you HAVE TO use some sort of colour. Now because hair dyes require a mix with developer, and I believe that causes some sort of damage to the hair shaft, I rather opt for coloured conditioners, because hair dyes WILL STILL fade over time. I typically like to do the coloured conditioner mix every 2 weeks, but that's because I'm really scared of going green (read about that further down.) But you can even go for once a month. For coloured conditioner I mix very few drops of the Nirvel Artx Nutre color in grey with white conditioner (I highly recommend Suave Coconut conditioner because it's silicone free so it applies the colour more evenly). Now with the Nirvel Artx, you can add more or less drops to go for a darker silver / or a grey / dark grey / ash blonde. So you'll have to experiment with the quantity to get the right colour. I only use like a grape-size amount of it with enough conditioner for two applications. http://ebay.to/1JxV8Hx
Because I had blue-purple hair, my hair is pretty much stained green, so to counteract the green, with the silver coloured conditioner mix I add a few drops of Crazy Colour by renbow in fire and mix it. (Red cancels out green).
TO AMPLIFY THE COLOUR
I use the ROUX temporary hair colour rinse 42 silver lining on towel dried hair. This is a rinse out colour so it washes out with the next shampoo. This gives the hair a very glossy and steely kind of look, and evens out the colour as well. This also conditions the hair, because it has conditioning agents. It is not at all damaging. http://ebay.to/1JWiaeF
To combat split ends - I do an olaplex treatment once every three weeks, and yes this has helped my hair A LOT. (like I did here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UuqYUUkLIw) This helps with split ends and the internal structure of the hair.
To combat dry hair - I do a coconut oil + aloe vera gel treatment. I mix an equal amount of coconut oil with hair conditioner (so that it doesn't drip all over the place.) And I mix in a teaspoon of aloe vera gel too. This adds shine and prevents dryness. I use KTC coconut oil and ESI aloe vera gel.
I wash my hair once a week so that leaves my hair in natural oils and that's really good for the hair.
I straighten my hair once a week (I sometimes skip straightening it if it's a good hair day). To preserve the hair styling, I use the Tres Emme keratin smooth 7 day heat activated treatment and Tres Emme keratin smooth. heat protection shine spray as explained in the video.
I use my GHD IV hair styler / straightener to straighten it.
After I straighten my hair I use the 100% pure Argan Oil to tame the frizz.
