Why Mozart's Magic Flute is a masterpiece - an introduction (The Royal Opera)

04:41
The cast and creative team of The Royal Opera's Magic Flute explore what makes Mozart's The Magic Flute a classic. Find out more at http://www.roh.org.uk/zauberflote Mozart wrote Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) for a suburban theatre in Vienna, the Theater auf der Wieden. He drew on the magical spectacle and earthy comedy of popular Viennese theatre. As well as being a comedy, The Magic Flute is an expression of Mozart’s profound spiritual beliefs: Enlightenment concerns with the search for wisdom and virtue are at the heart of this enchanting tale. The Magic Flute was an instant success with audiences and Mozart’s supposed rival Salieri described it as an ‘operone’ – a great opera. David McVicar’s classic production embraces both the seriousness and comedy of Mozart’s work. The audience is transported to a fantastical world of dancing animals, flying machines and dazzlingly starry skies. The setting provides a wonderful backdrop for Mozart’s kaleidoscopic score, from the Queen of the Night’s coloratura fireworks to Tamino and Pamina’s lyrical love duets and Papageno’s hearty, folksong-like arias.

Mozart: Die Zauberflöte / The Magic Flute from Teatro alla Scala

01:10
Accompanied by a luxurious team of professionals, consisting of the renowned stage director Peter Stein, his stage designer Ferdinand Wöger and conductor Ádám Fischer, Teatro alla Scala presents with Mozart’s Zauberflöte a production where orchestra, chorus, soloists as well as outfitters all consisted of students of the Academia Teatro alla Scala, the educational institution aimed to train the young talents, founded by the Teatro alla Scala in 2001. The result was more than stunning and an instant success with the audience of the ten sold out performances at La Scala, which is famous for its more than critical loggionisti. According to Die Presse, Fischer “gets the best out of the Academy Orchestra with delicate execution and humane phrasing” while the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung praises Fatma Said as Pamina and Yasmin Özkan as Queen of the Night. Featuring Martin Summer, Yasmin Özkan, Martin Piskorski, Fatma Said, Theresa Zisser, Till von Orlowsky, Orchestra e Coro dell’Accademia Teatro alla Scala, conducted by Ádám Fischer, staged by Peter Stein Available on C Major Entertainment BluRay and DVD soon Facebook: facebook.com/CmajorEntertainment Twitter: twitter.com/CmajorEnt1 Cmajor Shop: www.shop.cmajor-entertainment.com/

Magic Flute - Tamino and The Speaker

05:42
Tamino is confronted by the Chief Druid (aka the speaker) at Stonehenge and they debate his mission. SPEAKER: Why do you trespass on our land And thus defile our sanctuary? TAMINO: To fight for justice, love and truth SPEAKER: Like all naïve and callow youth My boy, beneath that mask of virtue I sense a mission of revenge Someone has filled your heart with hatred TAMINO: I only hate injustices SPEAKER: Our laws are just, were ruled with wisdom TAMINO: Ive heard Sarastro is your ruler. SPEAKER: Thats true. Sarastro is our king. TAMINO: Hes known for cruelty and lies. SPEAKER: He is as kind as he is wise. TAMINO I cant believe a word you say SPEAKER: So now youll go away? TAMINO: Why should I stay? Lies, all lies You are in Sarastros pay. SPEAKER: Youre clearly prejudiced I fear youve been deceived. TAMINO: Youre on Sarastros team Why should you be believed? SPEAKER: Because I speak the truth. Stay with me. Hear me out. You speak ill of our king. TAMINO: Ill hate him till I die. SPEAKER: What childish ranting! Tell me why. TAMINO: He is a tyrant and a brute SPEAKER: Young man, you have no first hand knowledge TAMINO; My eyes have seen a weeping mother My ears have heard her sorry plight SPEAKER: A woman scorned is filled with spite Her tongue drips poison to incite You have no proof that she is right What makes you think she hasnt lied?. You havent heard Sarastros side. TAMINO: What he has done cant be denied He stole Pamina out of malice Abducted from her mothers palace SPEAKER: Pamina was indeed removed TAMINO: He snatched her! What I said is proved Where is she now? In some dank cell?. SPEAKER: For what its worth, I think shes well But where shes kept, I cannot tell. TAMINO: Why cant you tell me, here and now SPEAKER: A priest is silenced by his vow TAMINO: How can I ever find Pamina? SPEAKER: If you are brave and persevere In time the mystery will come clear. (He exits) TAMINO: Oh endless night that sires confusion When will it come to some conclusion? VOICES OFF: Soon. Soon. Patience. Linger here. English words © Tom Boyd

The Magic Flute ACT I - Youth Opera performed by YPOSBC June 2018

01:02:08
Young People's Opera Society of BC (YPOSBC) Presents The Magic Flute, by W.A. Mozart - Performed at the Surrey Arts Centre Studio Theatre June 22-24, 2018. Act 1 of 2 full video. Link to Act 2: https://youtu.be/zEDZJOs8ljo In a mystical land between light and darkness, Prince Tamino is rescued from a ferocious dragon by the mighty magic of the Three Ladies who serve the Queen of the Night. From this moment on begins an adventure to save the Queen's daughter, Pamina, who is held captive by the high priest, Sarastro. With a magic flute for Tamino and magic silver bells for his newly found and goofy friend, Papageno, they set out to rescue her. Soon, Tamino discovers that Sarastro leads the highest of holy orders, and begins an initiation of trials with his beloved Pamina, to be worthy of the blessings of their goodness and virtue. Magic, struggle, deception and enlightenment are some of the many turns that the path of this adventure takes. It has all the makings of a modern day superhero movie, but in music and song - equally as exciting and acrobatic! That's opera! The mission of the Young People's Opera Society of BC (YPOSBC) is to provide affordable opportunities for youth to learn about, participate in, and sing opera at a community level so as to foster appreciation of opera and to create a foundation for future opera performers and performances. YPOSBC is a Registered Charity YPOSBC welcomes new members of all ages to sing, serve on the board of directors or volunteer for the production team. For more information visit http://www.yposbc.org

SPOLETO FESTIVAL USA | May 27 to June 12, 2011 | Charleston, SC spoletousa.org | 843.579.3100 Richly woven with ritual and symbolism, Mozart's final operatic masterpiece is a delightful yet profound look at man's quest for love, wisdom, and virtue. Enter an enchanted world where a noble prince searches for his beautiful princess, a blundering bird-catcher seeks a mate, and an evil queen schemes against the forces of good. Directors Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier—well known to Festival audiences for numerous productions since their U.S. debut with Salome in 1987—reveal the humanity and depth of character to magical effect as reason triumphs over chaos in this most beloved of Mozart's operas. Set design by Christian Fenouillat with costumes by Agostino Cavalca and lighting by Christophe Forey. Steven Sloane will conduct the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra.
