In MapInfo Pro there is a new way to handle style overrides. It's called Stacked Styles and essentially allows you to build one style override on top of another, without having to add any extra layers.

Learn how to create an Entity Relationship Diagram in this tutorial. We provide a basic overview of ERDs and then gives step-by-step training on how to make an ER diagram with correct cardinality. Entity Relationship Diagrams are comprised of 3 main categories: entities, attributes, and relationships. Entities are objects or concepts that are associated with important data—like a customer, order, or product. Attributes represent properties or traits of an entity, such as a customer’s phone number or home address. Relationships demonstrate the link between entities. Another main aspect of of ERD's is cardinality, which further defines the relationship between entities in a numerical way. Certain symbols signify the minimum and maximum relationship between different entities. Let’s start by just drawing a very rough title block – line on the right, box at the lower right hand corner, then we’ll start adding some text. Before we do that, I need to introduce you to the concept of AutoText. AutoText is text that Layout will automatically fill in for you based on information that is set in your model – it’s almost like the text version of a component from SketchUp. You can see what AutoText information is available by going up to “File,” “Document Setup,” “Auto-Text.” These are the Items that are already in as AutoText, and you can adjust their values within this area. For example, let’s add our Address to our title bar. To start, add a text box with the value "Address" in it to your title bar. Now, change your address in the AutoText section. Notice that the text in your actual document changes to match what you’ve entered in your Document Setup. You can adjust the style of your text within the “Text Style Section.” Now, let’s add a logo in the upper right hand corner – just go to “File,” “Insert,” and find your logo image. In this case, we’re going to use the AutoText for "Page Number", along with a letter and a pair of numbers. You can add a page description section, dates, and other information in here as well. Notice that you can create a border around a text box by selecting “Stroke” in the “Shape Style” section. You can draw lines to separate your various sections, and adjust the way they look using the “Stroke” option in your Shape Style section of your tray. Now, let’s talk about getting this to show up on all your pages (or at least most of your pages). First, you’re going to want to select all of this. You can group it or not – I’d probably group it. Then, you need to add a layer for Title Block, and put all this geometry on that layer. You can check it by toggling it on or off. You should be able to drag it down near the bottom. Then, assuming you want this to show up on every page, you need to click the option for Share Layer Across Pages. This will result on this layer showing up in the same location across every page. You may want to click the lock button to keep from accidentally editing your title block. However, sometimes you have pages you don’t want this to show up on – simply turn the layer off on those pages! Now, let’s adjust our page numbering so numbering doesn’t start until after the first page. Simply go up to your Document Setup again and use the drop down to select the page you’d like your numbering to begin on. Finally, you can save this block as a template so you can use it in future projects by simply going up to “File,” “Save as Template,” and saving it under your “My Templates” folder. In this task, we will do how to generate a vector grid of regularly spaced points. 1. Add your Vector layer to canvas (number of sample points, space between sample points are known already.) 2. Goto Vector toolbar and click on Research Tools; a. Regular points or Random points or b. as you need there are several algorithms. 3. Provide the vector layer as the input layer, 4. Then fill the required fields, and get the generated points as your inputs. 5. Clipping of generated points is an easy task; a. Vector toolbar - Geoprocessing tools - Clip 6. Calculate the serial number, X-Coordinate and Y-Coordinate of clipped points and finally save the calculated attribute table as Excel (*.xls) as shown on the video. 7. If you want to add Basemap on Canvas, then get the open source contributed Basemap from hundreds of Mapsites like; ESRI, BING, GOOGLE, LANDSAT, NASA, MapInfo, OSM,......, etc. 8. Now you can view and verify your Generated points live on canvas. Thanks. @Kapildev Adhikari

This is a short video tutorial that explains how to create larger regions out of smaller ones. There are different ways to combine objects within the same table together. Perhaps you have a need to create some sort of territory boundaries. You can take some existing postal or census boundary data and combine the individual objects together to create larger regions. This tutorial will cover two methods to combine objects. The first method is to select the objects manually, and go to the Objects menu and choose combine. The second method is by going to the Table menu and choosing Combine Objects Using Column. This second method requires that there is a column of data that contains some designation or ID that MapInfo Professional can use to combine the objects. It will read that column and combine all of the objects on the map together based on all the unique values in that column.

The polybuilder tool is new in MapInfo Professional version 12. There are a number of functions available in this tool and this tutorial will cover a few of them. Generally, the polybuilder tool is designed to simplify the conversion of digitized linework (representing regions) into polygon objects. A common use is the digitization of rock formations or land use areas from a scanned and georeferenced image (e.g., aerial or satellite imagery) as a series of lines or polylines. The linework dataset is then converted into an attributed dataset of polygon regions.
