Oracle Managed Files

11:12
Oracle Managed Files (OMF) OMF simplifies the creation of databases as Oracle does all OS operations and file naming. It has several advantages including: * Automatic cleanup of the filesystem when database objects are dropped. * Standardized naming of database files. * Increased portability since file specifications are not needed. * Simplified creation of test systems on differing operating systems. * No unused files wasting disk space. The location of database files is defined using the DB_CREATE_FILE_DEST parameter. If it is defined on its own all files are placed in the same location. If the DB_CREATE_ONLINE_LOG_DEST_n parameter is defined alternate locations and levels of multiplexing can be defined for Logfiles. These parameters are dymanic and can be changed using the ALTER SYSTEM statement. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=675154272533058&set=vb.244092622305894&type=2&theater&notif_t=video_comment

Partner Webcast – Oracle Managed File Transfer (MFT) with SOA 12c Integration

57:11
File processing has matured a lot in the recent years. Even though real-time processing is dominant in many integration patterns, fully integrated file transfer solutions are a core requirement in the new and hybrid world of cloud and on-premise enterprise. Cloud integrations are expected to increase the demand for file-based integrations even more. Built- in functionality for security, encryption, and global visibility have long been core Managed File Transfer requirements. Organizations still make heavy use of files utilizing bulk, batch, and real-time updates for application integration. As cloud Software as a Service (SaaS) is introduced in the IT landscape, file integrations simply increase in both size and volume. Oracle Managed File Transfer (MFT), a component that is tightly integrated with Oracle SOA Suite, enables secure file exchange and management with internal departments and external partners. Quickstart: Getting Started with Oracle and .NET

08:56
New to Oracle and .NET development? This video gives you everything you need to know to get up and running quickly! We walk you through downloading and installing the needed Oracle software and then connecting in Visual Studio and creating a simple C# application. The video starts at the Oracle .NET Developer Technology Center website at http://otn.oracle.com/dotnet We then download the "ODTwithODAC" package, extract it and run the installer. Note that ODAC version 12 works with Oracle Database versions 10.2 or higher. After installing we connect in Server Explorer and learn about the connection dialog features, including the Filters tab which by default filters out additional schemas you may have privileges on. We connect to the database using the easy to use EZ connect format. Finally we create a simple C# application and connect to the database using ODP.NET Managed driver and a EZ Config connect string. Prerequisites: 1) Visual Studio 2012 or 2013 -- any edition except Express Edition. Visual Studio Community Edition is supported. 2) An Oracle Database to connect to. You will need to know the hostname, port number and service name of the database. During the video we install: Oracle Data Provider for .NET Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio Oracle .NET Samples Oracle .NET Documentation

Dropping Oracle Database 11g Manually with Drop Database Statement

05:17
DROP DATABASE Purpose Caution: You cannot roll back a DROP DATABASE statement. Use the DROP DATABASE statement to drop the database. This statement is useful when you want to drop a test database or drop an old database after successful migration to a new host. Prerequisites You must have the SYSDBA system privilege to issue this statement. The database must be mounted in exclusive for RAC and restricted mode, and it must be closed. Semantics When you issue this statement, Oracle Database drops the database and deletes all control files and datafiles listed in the control file. If the database used a server parameter file (spfile), it is also deleted. Archived logs and backups are not removed, but you can use Recovery Manager (RMAN) to remove them. If the database is on raw disks, this statement does not delete the actual raw disk special files.

Using Oracle to read data from SQL Server

10:47
Hi everyone, Andy from Easysoft Limited here, what I want to show you today is how to get data from SQL Server into Oracle. Now for this we will be accessing SQL Server 2014 from Oracle 12 and getting data across. This could be quite easily be any SQL Server version from 2008 and any Oracle version from 11.2, the configuration and process is the same. We can obviously get access to data on SQL Server prior to 2008 and Oracle prior to version 11.2 but it will need a different configuration to what I am going to show you today The plan is also to add more data to the SQL Server table and show this new data back in Oracle. To start off you'll need access to ensure that you have access to your SQL Server and Oracle databases. You'll also need the Easysoft SQL Server ODBC Driver available from www.easysoft.com; just download it, install it and request the free 14 day trial licence. Before we start we need to make some changes to the standard Easysoft config files. cat /etc/odbc.ini Here I have changed Mars Connection to Yes. It must be set to "Yes" if you are connecting to SQL Server 2005 or newer. Easysoft supports all SQL data types from the version of SQL Server from version 7. Oracle supports data types that are common to most ODBC Drivers, but not some of the SQL Server ones. If you intend to access VARCHAR(MAX) for example, then there are some additional settings that need to be set up. Now as I would like to show you VARCHAR(MAX) data moving from SQL Server to Oracle, I have made the relevant change. As you can see, VarMaxAsLong says "Yes" We now need to create a link from Oracles Database Gateway (DG4ODBC) to the ODBC datasource that we already have, this is done in an init(sid) oracle file; let's have a look at our file. cat $ORACLE_HOME/hs/admin/initsqlsrv.ora Please note that HS_NLS_NCHAR must be set to UCS2 Oracle assume that most database vendors use UTF-8 for wide characters, however Easysoft, like almost all ODBC Driver vendors (including Oracles own ODBC Driver) uses UCS2 for wide characters. So that's the link between DG4ODBC and the datasource setup correctly. Next we need to set up the Listener entry The Oracle Listener waits for incoming requests from the Oracle database. For the Oracle Listener to listen for requests, information about DG4ODBC must be added to the Oracle Listener configuration file, listener.ora cat $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/listener.ora The PROGRAM=dg4odbc tells the Listener that we are wanting to use the Oracle database gateway to communicate with ODBC. The ENVS=LD_LIBRARY_PATH tells Oracle what library to load Now that's all set up and OK we need to tell Oracle which server to attach the listener entry to. This is done in tnsnames.ora, and he is the file that we ensured was set up earlier. cat $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora The Oracle Listener now needs to be restarted. lsnrctl stop lsnrctl start OK, that's now started the Listener up again. So we have ensured that all the configuration files are set up correctly. The Listener and tnsnames.ora both set up OK. The final step is to create a link from the Oracle database to the "tnsnames.ora" entry. CREATE PUBLIC DATABASE LINK ODBC CONNECT TO "test" IDENTIFIED BY "test" USING 'sqlsrv_ptr'; Right, that's all done. Let's access the data in SQL Server now. select * from [email protected]; Where 'demo' is the name of the SQL Server table and 'odbc' is the public database link name. OK, there we have the data. So to recap, I'm in Oracle and we have managed to read the data from SQL Server. Let's just add an additional row in that SQL Server table and retrieve the new data in Oracle. quit; /usr/local/easysoft/unixODBC/bin/isql.sh -v sqlsrv insert into demo values (2,'Easysoft') select * from demo select * from [email protected]; And there is the new data. Easysoft Limited can help you with your data access ... for our full range of ODBC and JDBC Drivers, Bridges and Gateways visit easysoft.com Be sure to let us know if you have any comments or questions. Until next time, thanks again and we'll see you again soon.

Performing Oracle 11g ASM Data Migration

17:34
Performing Oracle 11g Automatic Storage Management - ASM Data Migration Purpose of ASM Data Migration Alternatives to ASM storage include file systems, raw disks, and SAN configurations. ASM includes a number of benefits over these storage alternatives, including performance optimization, redundancy protection, and load balancing. You do not need to obtain a third-party Logical Volume Manager because ASM manages disks for you. Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC) databases benefit from ASM because it provides ready-made shared storage. If a database currently uses a storage system other than ASM, then you can migrate all or part of the database into ASM, thereby simplifying database administration. You can also migrate a flash recovery area to ASM. Native operating system commands such as Linux cp or Windows COPY cannot write or read files in ASM storage. Because RMAN can read and write ASM files, you can use RMAN to copy datafiles into and out of ASM storage or between ASM disk groups. This technique is useful if you need to store backups on user-managed disks.
